2016 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials
Tasked with designing brand assets from which the clients would then choose to base the style of this event around. The clients included representatives from the IUPUI Natatorium, IUPUI Office of Sustainability, Indiana Sports Corp, and IUPUI Food Services. Myself, and a team of two others, then had to design collateral pieces for the hotel and food services aspects of this first zero waste Olympic event. The chosen collateral materials had to best fit our target audiences and follow specific style guidelines, but also had to fall within the budget and desires of our clients.
Final Collateral Pieces
Zero Waste Event Brochure
This brochure was provided to the event volunteers (and potentially patrons of the event), not only to provide event information, but information regarding the zero waste menu and waste stations, the benefits of going zero waste, and the steps Indianapolis, IUPUI, and the IUPUI Natatorium are taking towards sustainability.
The color palette and brand assets were ones created by a fellow student, and chosen by our clients. These were used on all collateral located in the IUPUI Natatorium. The goal of the inside of the brochure was to ensure that the iconography, terminology, and styling were similar to that used throughout the entire event.
Vertical Banner
This banner would be located in the athletes' hotel. It served as a way to promote the event to other guests, but also as a way to assure athletes that they were in the correct hotel. The styling of this banner is different from that of the brochure since we had to follow the Olympic brand guidelines for anything placed in the hotel space. This mock-up uses an image we took of the same hotel space in which it would be placed.
One-Pager
Our team was asked to not only promote the Diving Trials, but the events in downtown Indianapolis associated with Team USA "Road to Rio". This 8.5 by 11, one-page info sheet, was placed in a stand at the front desk of the athletes' hotel. As you can see, similar to the vertical banner, it also uses the Olympic style guidelines, including it's color palettes, typography, and patterns.
My Brand Board
After visiting the IUPUI Natatorium (which served as great inspiration), as well as hearing from representatives from the IUPUI Office of Sustainability, all students were asked to create their own brand identity assets for this event. After presenting our work to the clients, one set of assets were chosen to represent the event. Below are the zero waste brand identity assets I developed and presented to clients for review. Because the IUPUI Natatorium was the location for this event, we were required to use the IU type palette, and our color choices had to also work well with the red and gray in IU's color palette. While my assets weren't chosen, I'm still proud of what I developed in a short time.
